Sensing O’Keeffe

“I know I cannot paint a flower. I cannot paint the sun on the desert on a bright summer morning but maybe in terms of paint color I can convey to you my experience of the flower or the experience that makes the flower of significance to me at that particular time.”  — Georgia O’Keeffe

20110520-2011 Tour of CA 007

I have always been a fan of O’Keeffe’s work.  She is an inspiration to me in shooting both macro and  landscapes.  When I saw this ‘White Calla Lily’ in my friends backyard while visiting her, I knew I was thinking about O’Keeffe and wondering how she would convey this experience.                                                                          Santa Barbara, CA     5/20/2011
